Weekly Hit or Miss: Covergirl truMagic Skin Perfector

Welcome to the first blog post in my new “Weekly Hit or Miss” series. These posts will mainly focus on items that don’t require much detail (i.e. lipstick, new drugstore items, etc) and don’t necessarily warrant a video or full review. I will try to do these every Friday as long as I have a product that fits the bill.

For this week, I will be discussing the new Covergirl truMagic Skin Perfector. Keep reading to find out if this product was a hit or a miss for me!

The Covergirl truMagic Skin Perfector is a clear balm that is designed to be used over or under makeup to mattify the skin. I primarily purchased this to be used as a touch up product throughout the day. If you have ever heard of the Mally Face Defender ($40) or Stila Stay All Day Prime & Anti-Shine ($30), this is supposed to be a cheaper alternative. Both of which I have always wanted to try, but didn’t want to spend that much money on. Imagine my excitement when I found the Covergirl version!

So did this product live up to the hype?

Sadly for me, no. When I apply this balm to oily areas, it does mattify them, but I find that the effect only lasts about an hour. On top of that, this balm tended to accentuate dry patches for me. I also noticed that after the mattifying effect of this product wore off, my foundation looked worse than before. It almost seems like the Skin Perfector moves around or breaks down my foundation. Lastly, this product gets pretty dirty. My foundation ends up on the balm and is really hard to wipe off.

So… Hit or Miss?  A definite miss for me!

Have you tried the new Covergirl truMagic Skin Perfector? How did it work for you?
