Staple Hair Product Review Series: Kinky Curly Curling Custard and Knot Today Conditioner

Today’s installment of my Staple Hair Product Review Series is going to be a two for one deal. I’ll be reviewing 2 products by Kinky Curly; the Curling Custard and the Knot Today conditioner. I decided to review these together because I always use them together and secondly because I am thinking about removing them from my staple product list. They are both great products, but at the time, I don’t feel like they fit my current hair needs. I’ll get into more of that within each review. I usually use these products together for a wash and go style. Kinky Curly Curling Custard retails for about $30 for a 16 ounce jar or $17 for a 8 ounce jar. Knot Today retails for $12 for an 8 ounce bottle. Kinky Curly products can be purchased at Whole Foods, Target, and kinkycurly.com.

Weekend Poll

Last weekend, you ladies told me that your preferred makeup look was neutral eyes with a bold lip (50%). Coming in at a close second, was the au naturale look(40%).

For this weekend I would like to know “How much money do you spend on your most expensive skincare item (i.e. moisturizer, cleanser, exfoliator, etc.)?”

My Answer: $21-$40. My most expensive item is my nighttime moisturizer which costs $38, but it lasts about 3 months. I think skincare items are one of those things that are worth the extra money.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Makeup Tutorial

Pumpkin Spice Latte
(www.sistersrunningthekitchen.com/2010/11/pumpkin-spice-latte/)

It  is officially Fall, but according to the weather in my area, you can’t tell. The reason that I know it is definitely Fall, is because the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is back! I love these drinks! I’m not even a huge fan of pumpkin in general, but this drink is amazing! If you haven’t tried it, make sure to!

Because of my excitement for the return of the Pumpkin Spice, I was inspired to do a makeup look based on the beautiful colors. Keep reading for more pictures and a video showing you how I accomplished this look!

Tip Tuesday #2: How to Make Your Lipstick Look More Natural

In today’s Tip Tuesday, I wanted to share a tip with you that helps me make my bold lip colors look more “natural.” If you have ever applied lipstick (especially bright ones), you probably have noticed that sometimes it can look thick. If you apply more than one layer, it can even look goopy on the lips. To prevent this, I normally apply lipstick right out of the tube, build it up to my desired intensity, and then go over my lips with a finger. I basically use one of my fingers to smooth out the lipstick. If I have only applied a thin layer of lipstick, this gives the lips a stained appearance. Take a look at the pictures below to see the difference.

My camera isn’t the best quality, so you might not be able to see much difference, but it makes a big difference in person.

What are your techniques for making your lipstick look perfect?

Dupe Alert!

I get way too excited when I am able to dupe a more expensive product with a cheaper one. I decided I would start sharing these on the blog for the ladies who wouldn’t mind spending less money on a great product. The items I am discussing today are 2 eyeshadows. Keep reading for pictures and comparisons!

Weekend Poll

Starting today, every Friday I will be posting a new poll or survey. I decided to try this because I would love more interaction on my blog and polls are an easy way for readers to participate.  In addition, this is a way for you (and I) to see what other’s opinions are! So every Friday, please stop by to answer my poll questions!

Today’s Weekend Poll asks “What is your favorite makeup look?”

My Answer: Bold lip and neutral eyes all the way!

Tip Tuesday #1: Tips for Transitioners

Welcome to my new series! Starting today, I will be posting some type of hair, makeup, skin care, or overall beauty tip every Tuesday. This series will consist of tips I have learned over the years from my own experience.

For the first installation in this series, I wanted to tackle some tips for my transitioners. By the term “transitioner,” I mean the ladies who are growing out their relaxer and transitioning to natural hair. The picture shown above was taken approximately a month before I cut my relaxed ends completely off. I know from personal experience, that it can be difficult to mix the 2 textures of hair, which can lead to frustration and/or rash decisions (ie. go back to the relaxer, or chop it off). Hopefully the tips listed below can be of some help to you in dealing with your transitioning hair.

Nail of the Day: China Glaze Kalahari Kiss

It’s been awhile since my last post, sorry about that! I’ve had some things going on in my personal life that made me not feel like blogging, but I’m back now! I decided to ease my way into things with a Nail of the Day post. Today’s nail polish is Kalahari Kiss by China Glaze. It is limited edition and came out with one of their fall lines. At this time, it is still available in stores.

In my opinion, this is a very unique shade. At first glance it might look like just another nude, but in different lights, it looks different. It tends to lean olive greeen or mustard yellow, I can’t decide which one more. The formula of this shade was very nice, not thick or thin. Sometimes I find China Glaze polishes to be slightly thick, but this one was perfect. The color was also relatively opaque and I used 2 coats. Overall, I do like the polish, but it is not my favorite. The shade is just a little strange. I do think it would make a great base for a gold or silver glitter top coat and it also is a nice fall nude.

What do you think of this shade? Do you have a go-to nude polish for fall?
